A highly respected leader of the Yawuru community and CEO of the community’s not-for-profit company, Peter Yu is based in the Kimberly region of Western Australia. Appointed to the Council of the Australian National University in 2017, he has also served as a Board member of the National Museum of Australia and chaired NMA’s Indigenous Reference Group. Peter Yu led the Kimberly Land Council in the aftermath of the Mabo decision, and chaired the Northern Australian Indigenous Land and Sea Management Alliance and the WA Aboriginal Housing Board. He was an active participant in the Constitutional Convention convened at Uluru in 2017, and in 2020 was appointed the Director of the National Centre for Indigenous Studies.
