Creating a Nation

‘Creating a Nation’ begins with the inauguration of the Australian Commonwealth in Sydney, and examines the ways that this country is governed. Much of it is filmed in the gracious interior of Canberra’s first parliamentary building – the historic setting of a constitutional crisis that truly rocked a nation.

Consider the big question

  • Australia’s political system and its constitutional crisis

Should the ‘Palace Papers’ (detailing secret, sensitive and private correspondence between Australia’s Governor-General and the British Monarch in the lead up to the double dissolution of 1975) be released for public viewing by Australia’s National Archives? What do you think?
